Looking North – 5678 viewsLooking up I-380 from the Wilson Ave exit (lower left).

Residential Area – 5315 viewsClose-up of flooding on west side of river.

Downtown – 5693 viewsLooking north across the river. Note the First Ave W exit/entrance ramps that look like boat ramps. Outline of First, Second, and Third Ave bridges is actually a combination of debris stuck on the bridge railings and water breaking over those railings. Quaker Oats is near the upper right to the left of the highway.

Mercy Hospital – 5701 viewsThe night before this picture was taken the hospital in the lower center of the screen had to be evacuated. It is right on the edge of the high point of the water. McKinley Middle School is in the lower center (where I went to Jr High). Eighth Ave (Mt Vernon Rd) goes to the left of the hospital to the bridge. The bridge is dry but you can't get to it. The next bridge to the left is the 12th Ave bridge, then the submerged 16th Ave bridge.

Wide View Downstream from Downtown – 4832 viewsThis is an industrial area with some housing. Most of the residential damage is on the other side of the river.

Looking Upstream – 5668 viewsCzech Village is in the lower left. Mays Island is top center. Three bridges cross the island; all are submerged. There's a railroad bridge just this side of the dry bridge you see in the center. You can see two ends of the bridge; the center has collapsed.

Looking Upstream – 4992 viewsWider view looking west. You can fly up the river and stay out of the Cedar Rapids airport's airspace if you stay below about 1000' above the ground. Several planes were flying up and down the river sightseeing while we were doing our circles around the city. We were flying in contact with Cedar Rapids ATC, who were obviously frustrated by the low-flying aircraft who were not talking to ATC.

Cedar Valley Bible Church – 4851 viewsAn undramatic photo of CVBC. You can kind of see the light area of the parking lot which is mud remaining from Indian Creek which covered the parking lot. That was the extent of the damage, which is great since we have had problems with flooding in the past.
