Forty-some years ago Martin Luther King dreamed of a day when a man would be judged not on the color of his skin but on the content of his character. Once again, Barack Obama's skin color took center stage at an inauguration that featured one of the most racist statements I've ever heard. I want to make it abundantly clear that I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. King's dream. Judging a person on their skin color, religion, or gender has no place in America. However, I keep looking for evidence that Obama and his groupies share that vision with Dr. King and me, and I keep coming up empty.
Today's inaugural benediction by Rev. Joseph Lowrey was astonishing in the scope of its insult. He concluded with this statement:
....help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.
First, the simple dividing of Americans by color is disturbing enough. But what he says about each is stunning. "Black will not be asked to give back". He wants a day when African Americans simply take from society and are not required to contribute to it.
"Brown can stick around". He views the immigration issue as race-based. That is, "we don't want no brown people around here". The truth of the matter is that the United States welcomes legal immigrants of all nationalities and race. Those of us who would like our immigration laws enforced have nothing against Mexicans (and other illegal aliens who make up a minority of illegals in this country) but rather believe that we have the right and responsibility as a sovereign nation to enforce our borders and immigration policy.
"Yellow will be mellow". To Dr. Lowrey, World War II is still being fought. The "Japs" were the aggressors then, and they and their Chinese communist brothers are just sitting back, waiting to invade the US again. Dr. Lowrey would have Asian Americans mellow out and stop trying to take over.
"The red man can get ahead". I may agree with him on this point. It's a shame we still have a reservation system. This structure should be dismantled and native Americans integrated into the rest of American society. It just shows you what a hundred and fifty years of government welfare will do to a people, and how bad the government is at taking care of those they take under their wing.
"White will embrace what is right". OK, what? We're at the inauguration of the nation's first black President, a man with an 80% approval rating in a country that is about 65% white, and Rev. Lowrey is still trying to stick it to whitey? You can't have 80% of the country approve of our black President when only 15% are black and not have at least 70% of the white population backing him up.
I realize Dr. Lowrey is like 200 years old and still lives in the glory days of the civil rights movement he helped start, but at some point it seems like you'd realize that you've won the battle. We're past the point where insults such as these invoke guilt and to the point where they're insulting.
Once again, as I said during the campaign, Barack Obama's poor judgment in choosing the people with whom he associates is evident. It was evident with Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, and Tony Rezco. We can now add Joseph Lowrey to the list. And we should issue this warning: Look out, Dr. Lowrey -- take a lesson from Jeremiah Wright. Barack will throw you under the bus when it becomes politically expedient. |
