These sweatshirts were given out to customers as part of a promotion
for MoneyCounts Extra. The original MoneyCounts marketing
strategy was to offer the basic program for next to nothing, then offer
a "deluxe" package with a few key additional features. This MoneyCounts
Extra version had a price that was closer to competitive with
products like Managing Your Money and Quicken. We found we
could almost always get people to upgrade to the Extra edition of
MoneyCounts, while our costs were identical.
It only sounds like a scam. We didn't coerce people to buy the
Extra version, but many of them would.
