Bill Does America |
| I've hesitated to post any opinions on the Clinton-Lewinsky affair. But enough of you
have asked... There are a few things that are completely obvious and can't be argued. First is that Clinton lied under oath and lied to the American people. His lies cost several people thousands of dollars in attorney's fees. Second, his speech after testifying before the grand jury was not an apology. He did not say he was sorry, he did not say he apologized, and he did not ask our forgiveness. He merely acknowledged that he had done something wrong. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about the speech was that, after not apologizing, he had the nerve to not ask but tell the American people to just forget about this and get on to more important things. Third, this incident has irreparably damaged his presidency. For example, it doesn't matter whether or not he planned the Sudan and Afghanistan bombings to distract from Lewinsky. The fact of the matter is that he can no longer be trusted. It's like that pizza -- it doesn't matter if you think it's delivered, it's DiGiorno's. It doesn't matter if you think Clinton might be telling the truth, he's still known-liar Bill Clinton and you can never be sure. Fourth, the same lack of integrity and character that led Clinton down this slippery slope will keep him from admitting that he should resign from office. He can't even bring himself to the point of apologizing; how can he be expected to do the right thing and resign? Fifth, Clinton is not just immoral, he's sick. If you haven't already read Paul Fick's The Dysfunctional President, you need to do it now. You might want to read my review. Finally, this is not about sex. Clinton lies. This time it just so happens he lied about sex. And he lied under oath. And (in my opinion) urged others to lie under oath. So the American public is just now figuring out this man is a liar? Those of us who voted for Bush and Dole have known he was a liar from the beginning. |
